Sailing without rudder
With dinghies or small keelboats it is enough to displace the weight in order to steer the boat.
On bigger yachts it is helpful to fix a storm anchor or some buckets to a couple of meters of chain. On the opposite side of the chain one attaches the sheets of the spinacker.
These are fed through blocks on each side at the height of the mast and then back to the winches. By hardening of one sheet and simultanuously easing the other, the boat can be steered with little effort.
